Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill will be in demand, says Sky Sports’ Gerry Armstrong

Sky Sports commentator Gerry Armstrong says „an awful lot of big clubs“ will be keen to make Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill their new boss.

O’Neill insists he is not thinking about his future just yet but Armstrong – like Sky Sports pundit and former Northern Ireland international Iain Dowie – feels he could be in demand after taking them to last year’s European Championship and almost guiding them to the World Cup in Russia.
„Is Michael going to stay on as international manager? There are an awful lot of big clubs who will be chasing his signature,“ Armstrong told Sky Sports News.

„Maybe for the next game but for how long? Who knows? There is another chapter for Michael, he has taken us to heights that are unbelievable.

„He is going to be tempted by an offer from a club but can he take them and build another side? That is what Michael has to think about.

„That’s his decision but it’s going to be a tough one.“
As well as a possible return to club management, O’Neill has been linked with the vacant Scotland manager’s job, although Armstrong feels he is more likely to take a club role if he decides to end his six-year association with Northern Ireland.

„Scotland should and probably would be interested but he has been an international manager,“ added Armstrong.

„If he is going to leave international management I think it would be for a club job rather than another international job.“Euro Soccer Bonus
