And Mourinho expects the former Sweden ace to stay put for the 2017/18 campaign, when the Portuguese coach believes his team will be even stronger.

He told reporters ahead of a visit from Watford on Saturday: „He came with the intention of staying two years and has been better than every expectation – maybe apart from his own.

„He knows we will try and improve next season and try to share with him in a fantastic way probably the last year of his career at the highest level, so I’m convinced that he’s staying.

„He’s also adapted to the club, he’s adapted to the situation. I don’t see any problem with his family.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney has recovered from illness and is in contention to feature against Watford, but defender Phil Jones is missing due to injury.
