Who can Liverpool and Celtic draw in their Champions League play-off?

Who can Liverpool and Celtic play in the final Champions League play-off round? We take a look at their potential opponents.

The draw to qualify for the group stages will be made at 11am BST on Friday August 4 in Nyon, with the two-legged ties to be played on August 15-16 and August 22-23.

Here, we run down who each British team could face as they look for a spot in the main draw.
Liverpool

Unlike Celtic, the Reds are yet to play a qualifying match and are seeded in the ‘league route’ side of the draw which means they qualified but did not win their domestic league.
Napoli and Sevilla are in the same position as Liverpool and after Ajax and Dynamo Kiev lost their third qualifying round ties, CSKA Moscow and Sporting Lisbon have joined them as seeded teams and they will not play each other.

They could be drawn against one of five unseeded sides: Steaua Bucharest, Young Boys, Nice, Hoffenheim and Istanbul Basaksehir.

Liverpool could come up against former striker Mario Balotelli, who now plays for Nice, while Roberto Firmino could face his old side Hoffenheim.

Celtic
The Scottish Premiership champions saw off Rosenborg in their third-round qualifying tie and will face a final play-off to reach the group stages. Because of their league win, they feature in the ‘champions route’ as a seeded side.
Along with the Hoops, the four other seeded sides – Olympiakos, FC Copenhagen, APOEL Nicosia and NK Maribor – will face an unseeded club, being either Qarabag FK, Hapoel Beer-Sheva, Slavia Prague, Astana or NK Rijeka.

Three of Celtic’s five possible opponents are familiar. They knocked Qarabag out of the Champions League in 2015, before eliminating both Astana and Hapoel Beer-Sheva last season.Euro Soccer Bonus
