Cardiff City scoop Sky Bet Championship Player and Manager of the Month awards

Cardiff City have scooped both prizes for the Sky Bet Championship’s Manager and Player of the Month awards for August with Neil Warnock named top boss and the players’ prize going to Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

The Bluebirds are the only Championship club with a 100 per cent record from five matches this season.

Winger Mendez-Laing has scored four league goals already this season and Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman said: „He is certainly making a name for himself in the Championship.

And it was a similar story in League One where leaders Peterborough claimed both awards too.

Grant McCann was selected as Manager of the Month, while the player award went to striker Jack Marriott.

Posh have taken 13 points from five games – including four wins from as many August fixtures – including away successes at Bristol Rovers and Northampton Town, while amassing a goal tally of 12-4.

Half of their league goals have been scored by Marriott whose super six included a hat-trick at Rovers.

Goodman said of McCann: „He signed a four-year deal following his appointment at London Road in May last year and looks to have found the formula for success at the start of his second term at Posh.“

And in League Two, Newport County striker Frank Nouble was voted top player, while Paul Tisdale of Exeter collected the manager’s award.

The 25-year-old Nouble registered five goals and an assist in four games that included a 13-minute hat-trick against Chesterfield.

As for Tisdale, he is been at St James Park since the summer of 2006 and Goodman added: „What a difference a year makes in football and for Paul Tisdale and his Exeter City side.

„The Grecians stood by their manager after a wretched start to last season, despite widespread calls for him to leave the role he inherited way back in June 2006.
