Hamann tips United rise

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann believes Manchester United are the team to watch out for as his old club prepare to face the Red Devils on Sunday.After a stuttering start to the Premier League campaign, United are starting to settle into life under former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

The Red Devils are now on an eight-game winning streak and will head into Sunday’s encounter with the Merseysiders full of confidence of getting another result.

Despite Liverpool holding a five-point gap over United in the table, Hamann feels Mourinho’s men could have what it takes to close the gap on current frontrunners Chelsea.

He told Sky Sports: „There was a time a few weeks ago when United had a seven or eight-point gap to fourth place, and the deficiency now is two points. They’re in touching distance with all the other teams apart from Chelsea so Mourinho is a lot more safe.“

He added: „At the start of the season I tipped him to win the Premier League. Whether a 10-point lead for Chelsea is too much I’m not sure, but I still believe United have the most talented squad and once Mourinho’s teams get going they can be very hard to stop.

„You’ve got to watch out for them in every competition, and in the Premier League I think they’ll be a team to watch out for in the coming months.“

Liverpool are 13/5 to claim victory at Old Trafford, with the draw priced at 12/5, while the Merseysiders can be backed at 11/1 to secure a 1-0 victory in Manchester.
