Henderson set for United return

Liverpool hope to have skipper Jordan Henderson available for the Premier League clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford a week on Sunday.

The England midfielder suffered a heel injury during the 1-0 victory over Manchester City on New Year’s Eve and was absent as the Reds drew 2-2 at Sunderland last time out.

He is also set to be sidelined for the FA Cup third round tie against Plymouth Argyle on Sunday and is unlikely to be risked for the first leg of the League Cup semi-final against Southampton on Wednesday.

However, Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp is confident that his captain will be back for the grudge showdown with the Red Devils on Sunday 15th January.

The German told the club’s official website: “Actually, it is good news if you want – we had this issue with the heel and we had to take him out for a while, but he is already on the way back.

“He has no chance for the weekend and I am sure (there’ll be) no risk for Southampton, but then I think it is absolutely possible that he’s back.”

Liverpool have only won one of their last seven meetings with the Red Devils, that victory coming in the Europa League last season.

The meeting of the two sides at Anfield in the Premier League earlier this season ended in a goalless draw.

Liverpool are 12/5 to claim victory at Old Trafford, with the draw priced at 12/5, while the Merseysiders can be backed at 12/1 to secure a 1-0 victory in Manchester.
