John Terry targets trophy success with Aston Villa

Newly installed Aston Villa skipper John Terry says the club’s target this season is to win promotion back to the Premier League.

The former Chelsea captain says Villa have the squad to succeed in the Championship, but he is not taking success for granted – having recently joined Steve Bruce’s side.

Terry led the Blues during their title-winning Premier League seasons of 2005-06-10-15, and played nine times when they clinched another league trophy last season.
And looking ahead to his next challenge, this time in the Midlands, the 37-year-old told Sky Sports News HQ: „It’s exciting for me playing in front of 45 thousand fans. It’s a new chapter for me.

„Our vision is to get promoted back to the Premier League. This club belongs in the Premier League. The stadium, facilities, the squad we’ve got, the manager – everything’s in place. But we still need to perform on the pitch.

„We have a vision: the players, myself and the manager, to get up like everyone else.
„I want to lift the trophy but there will be six or seven other clubs who will have the same ambitions.

„But we know it’s not going to be easy or that we’ll run away with it. But we have the mental toughness, experience, and a lot of good young players.“

As for playing 46 Championship games, rather than 38 in the top flight, the central defender is unperturbed: „I’m ready. Shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve had a career playing 60-65 games in a season anyway.“Euro Soccer Bonus
