Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool must address defensive weaknesses

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool must learn to “defend different situations better” and hopes to establish a defensive discipline in preparation for his side’s 2017/18 Premier League campaign.

Klopp’s attacking approach resulted in 78 league goals for Liverpool last season, but he admits his team have work to do in defence, as they look to bring the number of league goals conceded down from the 42 of last season – more than any side in the top six.

„We have to defend different situations better and not to think about how we could make the other teams crazy with all the qualities we have,“ Klopp told the club’s official website.
„With the quality and skills of the boys, you immediately have different options offensively, but to be organised is the main thing.

„Otherwise you have no chance, you will have how we felt a few times, you can have 80 per cent possession but in the end if they have one situation then 1-0.“

Klopp voiced his frustration at the team’s set-piece defending and has urged his players to turn things around during their pre-season preparations.
