Leicester sign Coventry’s George Thomas after compensation agreed

Leicester have signed striker George Thomas from Coventry on a three-year deal.

Sky Sports News reported on Monday that the Foxes were moving in on their man having reached an agreement of just under £500,000 with the Sky Blues.

The 20-year-old was out of contract with Coventry due compensation and the Foxes had been trying to negotiate a settlement for a number of weeks.
It is understood the agreement included a number of add-ons based on the player’s future performances.

Thomas told LCFC TV: „I’ve played 50-odd games at professional level, so maybe I have got that head start over other 20-year-olds in the country. Hopefully I can use that experience to get into the first team here.

„The aim is to play first-team football and try and help the club. That’s the aim, to try and hit the ground running.“
Thomas – a Wales U20 international who scored the winner for Coventry in their EFL Trophy triumph at Wembley in April – has also been of interest to Swansea City.

But he is Leicester born and still lives in the city, and had been keen to move to his local club.

He is a product of Coventry’s academy and the club offered him a new deal, ensuring they were due compensation for a player who had been on the books for 11 years.
