Leicester v West Brom preview: Midlands clubs meet in Premier League Asia Trophy opener

Leicester and West Brom get the Premier League Asia Trophy underway on Wednesday when they meet in the opening match, live on Sky Sports.

The four-team tournament sees the Midlands rivals go head-to-head on the new Sky Sports Premier League channel before Liverpool face Crystal Palace straight after.

Coverage begins at 10.30am, with kick-off at 11am, and will also be shown on Sky Sports Main Event.
The winners of each game will then play each other for the trophy on Saturday, while the losers of each semi-final will face-off beforehand.
And Leicester defender Danny Simpson is relishing the chance to prepare against Premier League opposition ahead of the new season.

„It’s great to be here,“ he told LCFC TV. „To come across to the other side of the world and to be in a competition with three other Premier League teams is great for us and our pre-season. It’s great to get ready for the start of new season.
„It’s a great tournament to be in and hopefully we’ll get out of it what we want. It’s a great experience to come over to Hong Kong and play against Premier League teams. We know what we’re up against and the difficulties that we face, we’ll all face them together.“

West Brom manager Tony Pulis is back in Hong Kong after his brief stint at the local Happy Valley club in 1981 and knows the tough conditions his side will face as the humidity is expected to hit around 80 per cent over the coming days.
„The weather and humidity, when I first went over there, was really horrendous but I grew into it and I really, really enjoyed it. I’ve got great memories of the place and great memories of the seven or eight months I spent there,“ he told the club’s official website.

„Of course we want to win both games here but we are only into the second week of training so we are not at full tilt yet. The most important thing is to get the players through the 60, 80 or 90 minutes that they play.“

Leicester will play their first pre-season friendly against the Baggies, meaning there could be debuts for new signings Harry Maguire and Vicente Iborra.
Youngsters Elliott Moore, Callum Elder and Harvey Barnes have also travelled with the squad and could make their Foxes first-team debuts on Wednesday, but Robert Huth will not feature after undergoing ankle surgery.

There could also be a debut for West Brom with new loan signing Ahmed Hegazi in Hong Kong with the squad while Jay Rodriguez will be looking to get off the mark after his £15m move from Southampton.

James Morrison has travelled to Hong Kong after a recent bereavement but Gareth McAuley has stayed in the UK to continue his rehabilitation after a thigh injury.Euro Soccer Bonus
