Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp refused to criticise Adam Lallana after the midfielder had missed a gilt-edged chance in the 1-1 draw at Manchester City.

The former Southampton star allowed the ball to roll under his foot when he seemed certain to score after Roberto Firmino had created the opportunity for the Reds to win a thrilling encounter.

Sergio Aguero equalised  for City after James Milner had opened the scoring with a penalty before Lallana’s late mishap.

However, Klopp refused to condemn his player after the entertaining encounter, saying: „Obviously he’s one of the best – if not the best – player, technical-wise, I have ever worked with.

„If he couldn’t [score] in this moment, I thought it was because he worked so hard before.

„The goalie [Willy Caballero] was quite impressive for City and maybe he made a good movement or whatever, or he [Lallana] was surprised that we played football like this because we hadn’t 20 times before that. It was good, but that really can happen.
