N Forest v Millwall preview

Nottingham Forest will begin their Sky Bet Championship campaign at home to Millwall on Friday night without Matty Cash and Jamie Ward.

Midfielder Cash is out for up to three months after suffering ankle ligament damage in pre-season while forward Ward will miss between four and six weeks with a calf injury sustained against Burnley last weekend.

Britt Assombalonga was sold to Championship rivals Middlesbrough over the summer but Daryl Murphy has been brought in as a replacement and the striker is one of a handful of new signings vying to make his Forest debut on Friday night.
Tendayi Darikwa, Jason Cummings, Barrie McKay, Liam Bossin, Joe Coveney and Kieran Dowell, on loan from Everton, are also in contention for starting places.

Millwall are expected to hand debuts to new full-backs Conor McLaughlin and James Meredith. George Saville, Jed Wallace and Jake Cooper could also all feature having returned to the club.

Friday’s fixture is expected to come too soon for Ryan Tunnicliffe, who only arrived on Monday, while Tom Elliott can expect a place among the substitutes. Their only absentee is Sid Nelson, who has a slight muscle injury.
