Netherlands v England Women preview: Jill Scott suspended for Lionesses

Bet365

Jill Scott will be suspended for England as they take on the Netherlands in the Women’s Euros semi-finals on Thursday.

The midfielder will miss out for the Lionesses after picking up a booking against France as they take on the tournament hosts in a sold-out FC Twente Stadion in Enschede.

First-choice goalkeeper Karen Bardsley, who only conceded one goal all tournament, will miss the rest of the Euros due to a leg fracture, with Siobhan Chamberlain set to start for the Lionesses in her place.

„The medical team were really clear, the scans and x-ray were really clear – she wouldn’t be available for the rest of the tournament,“ head coach Mark Sampson told Sky Sports News.
„We’re devastated for KB because she’s played such a big part in us getting to this stage, not only during the tournament but over the last few years.

„Luckily we have two great goalkeepers [Chamberlain and Carly Telford] but KB will play a big part.“

Eight years on from England beating the Netherlands 2-1 after extra time in the UEFA Women’s Euro semi-finals, they play again in the last four.

Team news
Scott is suspended for England, while first-choice goalkeeper Bardsley will miss the rest of the Euros due to a leg fracture.

Netherlands have no injury or suspension concerns heading into the semi-final fixture.

Match stats
England are the only previous finalists remaining in the competition, having lost to Sweden in 1984 and Germany in 2009.

The Netherlands could be the seventh different team to reach the final after England, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Italy and either Austria or Denmark, who play in the first semi-final in Breda.

Netherlands are hoping to be only the second hosts to reach the finals since they were expanded to an eight-team tournament with a group stage in 1997. Germany won on home soil in 2001 while Sweden fell in the semi-finals of 1997 (as co-hosts with Norway) and 2013.

A sell-out suggests this game will break the record attendance for a women’s football game in the Netherlands, set in the opening game here when 21,732 watched the hosts beat Norway in Utrecht.Euro Soccer Bonus
